About
Sanctuary was started 2 years ago, when artist, educator and mother Charlyn M. Griffith arrived in Philadelphia in search of a home to purchase with her partner. Their friend and banker Stacey J Danner encouraged Charlyn to move forward with a business plan and set action steps towards creating a business that would utilize the space that he had invested in years ago. Stacey’s business savvy and belief in the arts & youth enterprise has been a fundamental driving force behind Charlyn’s endeavor.
Charlyn aka Charly Brownskin is a dancer and over all performer and artist. Unafraid to try her hand in all mediums, Charlyn pushes the boundaries of her own comfort to live a life that will inspire others. Whether walking with her cocky, supportive or wishful demeanors, all roads lead to greatness for herself and others. Charly Brownskin is a nom de plume granted her by a Brooklyn Goddess, one Anika “colored honey” Lani. Soon come clips and photos form Charly’s stage performances.
Charlyn taught in various New York City schools and non-profit organizations. Her particular strengths are in areas surrounding Rites of Passage, Community Organizing and Action projects and particularly enjoys programming for girls… because well, being a woman is just so divine. Charlyn has a deep love for structured and well thought out FREEDOM. She homeschools her 4 year old son Math and plans to do so for her 4 month old Compton. Her dearest friends in Philadelphia ally with her family to also homeschool their children and many of the mothers have delivered their children at home like herself. They are the Flowers of the Ancestors Indigenous Arts & Sciences Academy and offer support to families desiring a homeschool education for their children and birth support.
A message from Charlyn:
Dear Beloved,
Sanctuary was born out of a desire to increase the space and places in which we could trust that we would be served with an energetic boost, a vital life force fuel, a nice conversation with someone, a hug. Sanctuary plays host to events and meetings of all types, and holds space for the most intense healing to the subtlest of energetic shifts. We all all born into this world perfect. We each create miracles and see divinity in our private moments and those are the things that bring us through the challenges with dignity and fervor. It’s our birthright. I am so excited to be living a life committed to that. And I appreciate any moment that you’ve spent with us at Sanctuary. We will continue to partner with good folks and organizations to bring you compelling, paradigm shifting programs.
Charlyn Griffith
